This past weekend, Washington and Lee welcomed for one of its greatest weekends, Alumni Weekend. From Thursday to Sunday, proud W&L alums visited the campus and reunited with former classmates, faculty, and current students. More than 1000 alums walked along the Colonnade and recalled their favorite W&L memories.

This weekend honored Class of 1961 for their 50^th Reunion, Classes of 1966, 1971, 1976, 1981, 1986, 1991, and 1996. Beginning with the Opening Assembly on Thursday at Lee Chapel by a keynote address from Provost June Aprille, the alums enjoyed various receptions, panel discussions, Open Houses, and parties.

They also elected new members of the Alumni Board and gave the Washington Award to Roger Mudd ’50, the award-winning journalist. The university also honored three alumni with Distinguished Alumni Awards, John A. Cocklereece ’76, Clifford K. Holekamp ’96, and Dr. E. Darracott Vaughan Jr. ’61.

Alumni also made generous reunion gifts to the university including one from the Classes of 1961 and 1986 of $3.5 million.

This weekend also gave a chance for current students to reunite with recent graduates. Many alumni were able to revisit their glorious college years at parties on Friday and Saturday night.
